Jordan's Wheat Reserves Sufficient For 5.5 Months, Minister Says
(MENAFN- The Peninsula) QNA
Amman: Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah said on Tuesday that the Kingdom’s wheat reserves are sufficient to cover consumption for 5.5 months, with an additional four-month supply already contracted and en route.
Speaking during a meeting of the Parliamentary Economy and Investment Committee, Qudah added that current stocks of animal feed are sufficient for approximately eight months.
He noted that a decision has been in place since November to restrict the export of essential food commodities without prior government approval, in a move aimed at safeguarding national reserves.
Qudah also said the government would not impose any increases in taxes or customs duties on goods as a result of higher transportation costs or shifts in supply routes.
The meeting, which brought together members of the committee and government officials, was convened to assess supply chain conditions and ensure the sustainability and security of strategic reserves of basic commodities amid ongoing regional developments.
