Counterpoint Data: Global Pure-Play Foundry Market Size to Grow 26% for Full Year 2025
Ask AI · TSMC’s market share remains stable at 72%. How will its technological leadership be maintained?
IT Home, March 19 — According to the latest data from Counterpoint Research, the global pure wafer foundry industry is expected to grow by 26% in 2025. This is mainly due to the sustained strong demand for AI GPUs, ASICs, and other accelerators on the 4/5 nm nodes.
In the fourth quarter of last year, the revenue of the pure wafer foundry industry increased by 20% year-over-year. The market shares of the five major players—TSMC (72%), Samsung Foundry (7%), SMIC (5%), UMC (4%), and GlobalFoundries (4%)—remained unchanged from Q3 2025.
Industry forecasts suggest that the capacity utilization of advanced processes and some mature 8-inch processes will improve in 2026. Coupled with a broad increase in wafer prices, this is expected to further boost revenue growth in the wafer foundry business.
