Middle East Situation | Iran Claims Effective Control Over Strait of Hormuz
The spokesperson for Iran’s Hatham Anbia Central Command of the Armed Forces stated on Monday that Iran has taken the initiative in the relevant waters of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman and has effective control over the Strait of Hormuz.
No Need to Lay Mines in the Persian Gulf
Iran’s armed forces announced on national television Press TV that, based on current control capabilities, Iran does not need to lay mines in the Persian Gulf, but will take all necessary measures to ensure security if needed. The spokesperson also stated that Iran’s armed forces have the ability to maintain security in the Persian Gulf through regional cooperation, and foreign countries have no right to intervene.
Typically, about 20 million barrels of oil are transported daily through the Strait of Hormuz. Since early March, the passage through the strait has essentially been paralyzed, increasing shipping costs and causing a rise in global oil prices.
