Iran claims to have destroyed the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil, Iraq

According to local time in Iran on March 2, the U.S. Consulate in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq, has been “destroyed and is no longer operational.” The government of the Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq and the U.S. have not responded. According to Erbil security officials on March 2, since February 28, the Kurdistan Region has experienced more than ten attacks carried out by Iran and Iraqi militia groups known as the “Islamic Resistance Organization.” The attacks involved over 60 missiles and drones, most of which were intercepted by local air defense systems.
