OpenAI releases AI security agent tool Codex Security, challenging the traditional cybersecurity industry

CryptoTimes App learns that OpenAI is launching an AI agent designed to help security teams identify and fix vulnerabilities in large databases, potentially reducing the need for traditional cybersecurity companies. In a statement on Friday, OpenAI said this intelligent agent, called Codex Security, can identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities, suggest solutions, and then fix those issues. The company states that the tool is intended to operate at scale and provide “easy-to-accept patches,” allowing developers to focus on higher-level tasks. The company also revealed that this AI tool has been used to scan and identify security flaws in open-source code repositories.

This product from the ChatGPT developer competes with Claude Code Security from Anthropic PBC, which also detects vulnerabilities and offers fixes. After releasing this new security tool last month, cybersecurity stocks dropped significantly. Both CrowdStrike (CRWD.US) and Cloudflare (NET.US) saw their shares fall by 8%.

Codex Security is developed from Aardvark, an AI security research tool based on GPT-5, which OpenAI released last year for beta testing with a select group of clients. Codex Security will be available in a research preview version to ChatGPT Enterprise, Business, and Higher Education customers in the coming days, with the first month free.

The AI agent is designed to learn from feedback, improving its threat models over time.
