According to Decrypt, Nevin Shetty, a former CFO of a software company in Washington State, USA, was sentenced to 2 years in prison for embezzling company funds to invest in a crypto DeFi project. Prosecutors stated that in 2022, he secretly transferred approximately $35 million of company funds into his operated DeFi platform HighTower Treasury and invested in high-yield DeFi lending protocols (with an annualized return of about 20%). Subsequently, the Terra collapse caused the related investments to lose almost all their value, resulting in significant losses for the company and layoffs of about 60 employees. The court also ordered him to pay approximately $35 million in restitution and to undergo 3 years of supervision after release, and he is prohibited from serving as a company executive or director without approval.
