I have a classmate who I no longer keep in touch with. Ever since he started trading stocks, our relationship has become more distant—he’s not willing to chat much during free time, and the next time I hear from him, it might just be to ask for a red envelope.
He definitely isn’t a value investor; he’s passionate about chasing main funds and hot topics, and he’s been involved in sectors like pig cycles, batteries, photovoltaics, securities, and artificial intelligence for years.
Another friend and I once bought some stocks following his lead, but we didn’t dare chase the ones that kept rising, and we got trapped in those with volatile or downward trends. Due to differences in investment strategies, we are unlikely to get along well, and our common topics are dwindling.
He often says that the Chinese stock market isn’t about value investing but is driven by trends, policies, and sentiment. He believes it’s hard to make money without following the main forces.
As for me, my abilities are limited, and I tend to mess around blindly. Although I haven’t suffered losses, my returns are quite average. So, how do others invest? Have they found the right investment approach that suits them?
