Google Wear OS Smartwatch System New Features Revealed: Earthquake Alerts Without the Need to Pair a Phone

IT Home February 24 News, according to technology media Android Authority today reported that Google’s Android system earthquake alert feature can aggregate sensor data from millions of phones and send earthquake warnings to users. The company introduced this feature to Wear OS smartwatches last year, allowing users to receive earthquake alerts directly on their wrists.

According to the report, Google stated in the latest Play Services update notes (IT Home note: v26.07, released on February 23): “[Wear] with this feature, you can receive earthquake alerts even if your Wear device is not paired with your phone.”

It is reported that currently, the earthquake alert feature on Wear OS only mirrors messages from the phone. We also cannot confirm whether Wear OS watches with cellular network capabilities have ever supported independent earthquake alerts, but Google’s recent update notes emphasize this point, implying that it was not supported before.

However, yesterday’s update note suggests that Pixel, Galaxy watches, and other Wear OS devices will be able to receive earthquake alerts before an earthquake arrives, even without connecting to a smartphone.

We still cannot learn more details about this feature and need to wait for official Google announcements or further explanations to understand how it works specifically.
