Beijing's new non-motorized vehicle regulations to be implemented in May; traffic police: will strictly investigate violations such as running red lights and wrong-way driving
According to the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau Traffic Management Department, by 2025, the number of fatal electric bicycle accidents has accounted for 35% of all fatal accidents in Beijing, with 24.4% of these involving running red lights, making it one of the main causes of traffic fatalities. To curb the high incidence of electric bicycle accidents, traffic management authorities will carry out targeted rectification in 2026 through combined measures such as law enforcement guidance and increased publicity to reduce traffic safety hazards associated with electric bicycles and effectively protect the safety of citizens’ lives and property.
