Pentagon rejects confirmation of ship deployment to Greenland

U.S. defense sources have denied rumors of an imminent deployment of medical ships to Greenland. The military institution has not issued any orders supporting the recent claims made by President Donald Trump, who mentioned that a medical vessel was en route to that Arctic region. According to data compiled by The Wall Street Journal and Jin10’s maritime tracking systems, the reality regarding the whereabouts of the main U.S. medical ships is very different from what has been announced.

Current status of U.S. medical vessels

The United States maintains two internationally significant hospital ships: the USNS Comfort and the USNS Mercy. Both ships are currently docked at the Mobile, Alabama port facilities, far from any deployment operations toward the North Atlantic. The Pentagon has not authorized any movement of these ships in recent months, and they remain stationed in shipyards where they require maintenance and repairs.

Maintenance and repair schedule

The USNS Comfort, located on the East Coast, is undergoing repairs with an expected completion date in April. Meanwhile, the USNS Mercy, based on the West Coast, has been in preventive maintenance for a longer period. Since July of last year, it has been undergoing comprehensive conservation work as part of a one-year cycle. According to Pentagon records, both ships will remain in their respective shipyards for the coming months, ruling out any mobilization operations in the near future.
