Gansu middle school’s ultra-long schedule draws attention, with parents saying that after the report, school ends earlier at 10:30 PM; local education bureau responds again
According to Dfeng News of Huashang Daily, a widely circulated student schedule has drawn attention to Guanghe Middle School in Guanghe County, Linxia Prefecture, Gansu Province.
The schedule shows students starting self-study and recitation at 5:35 a.m., with breakfast lasting 25 minutes, lunch 30 minutes, dinner 25 minutes, a 30-minute nap, and a 20-minute oath. The rest of the time is mainly class time. Boarding students finish washing up after 20 minutes at 10:20 p.m. and continue evening self-study until 11:20 p.m., while day students attend classes until 11:10 p.m. This schedule results in excessively long study hours, and the short meal and rest times have been hard for many netizens to accept.
On the afternoon of February 25, staff from Guanghe County Education Bureau clarified that the circulated schedule was based on a template from other schools and had not been officially implemented.
On February 26, a person claiming to be a local parent said that the information was true. The school started evening self-study on the night of the 24th after the Spring Festival, following the circulated schedule. Many children and parents found it unbearable, believing such a schedule severely harms students’ health. “It is said that the school has a new principal, and the county has a new leadership team focusing on education,” the parent said. However, after online discussions on the 25th, the school made adjustments that night, moving the dismissal time from after 11 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The breakfast, lunch, and rest times remain unchanged for now, and there may be further adjustments later.
In response, the reporter contacted Guanghe County Education Bureau twice more. However, the staff gave contradictory answers to the previous statements. “That is not Guanghe Middle School’s schedule, and no such schedule has been made,” one staff member said. They explained that netizens linked false schedules to Guanghe Middle School, and after discovering this online, the bureau immediately organized an investigation. The findings showed that Guanghe Middle School’s schedule strictly follows relevant regulations, with students arriving before 7:40 a.m. and finishing evening self-study by 10 p.m. The schedules for grades 10, 11, and 12 are the same, and grade 12 did not start earlier. The staff member emphasized that the circulated schedule is not from Guanghe Middle School, and some netizens are deliberately spreading false information to attract attention and traffic.
However, regarding the start date of this semester, two staff members provided different answers. On the morning of the 26th, one said students reported on the 25th and classes officially started on the 26th. Later that afternoon, another staff member said students registered on the 24th and classes began on the 25th. As for the previous statement that a schedule had been made but not yet implemented, this staff member said they were unaware because the duty personnel had changed.
