Amman, Feb. 27 (Petra)-- Approximately 35,000 worshipers performed the Isha and Taraweeh prayers on Thursday evening at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, despite restrictions imposed by Israeli occupation authorities on access to Jerusalem’s Old City.
The Palestinian News Agency WAFA, citing the Islamic Awqaf Department in Jerusalem, reported that thousands of Palestinians flocked to the mosque to observe prayers in a spiritual atmosphere.
Israeli forces were deployed at the gates of the Old City and around the compound, checking the IDs of several young men and preventing some from entering.
Al-Aqsa Mosque witnesses large numbers of worshipers during the holy month of Ramadan each year, amid tightened security measures and restrictions on Palestinians arriving from the West Bank. At times, age-based entry limitations are also enforced.
