Hong Kong is taking major strides in shaping the future of digital finance. The Securities and Futures Commission has introduced new virtual asset (VA) guidelines that build on its strategic ASPIRe Roadmap aimed at making Hong Kong a thriving, well-regulated hub for crypto and digital asset innovation.
These updated rules are designed to: Open up virtual asset trading services Licensed brokers can now offer VA financing to qualified margin clients. Guide development of leveraged and advanced VA products for professional investors within a clear regulatory framework. Support deeper liquidity and product diversity in the market by modernizing platform operations and compliance requirements. 🔹 Extend regulatory oversight across more parts of the VA ecosystem, including VA dealing and custody services in the near future.
These guidelines reflect Hong Kong’s ambition to balance innovation and investor protection — creating a competitive, transparent and secure virtual asset landscape. As global adoption of digital assets accelerates, Hong Kong continues to refine and expand its regulatory playbook to attract institutional capital and responsible market players.
The city’s approach signals confidence in digital markets while strengthening safeguards that give both institutions and investors more certainty.
