【BitPush】V God recently shared his thoughts on decentralized social media during a public talk. He mentioned that he has been using Farcaster from 2023 to 2024, and there are two main reasons why he started paying attention to this field.

First, he candidly pointed out that the quality of conversations on Twitter is increasingly difficult to describe positively. Twitter is becoming less and less like a place suitable for global dialogue, so there is a need for alternative options. But this raises the second issue—the dilemma of network effects.

No matter how good a product is, it cannot avoid this hurdle. You might have smarter recommendation algorithms or stronger privacy protections, but the key is that without users, all of this is meaningless. That’s why many innovative social applications have failed at the starting line.

V God believes that the Firefly project has found a breakthrough. Its strengths lie in two points: first, it truly implements a decentralized architecture; second, it has become a multi-link platform—serving as both a Twitter client and an access point to Farcaster. Users don’t need to give up their Twitter habits at all and can seamlessly experience decentralized social media.

In this way, the burden of network effects is lifted. Users are retained, and the ecosystem comes alive.

Hey, there's no denying the importance of network effects, but can Firefly really break through? I remain skeptical... No matter how good the algorithm is, if users don't come, it's all pointless. This hurdle is one everyone has to face.

honestly the network effect thesis here is just mile 20 of the ultra-marathon, nothing new. but yeah firefly solving the cold start problem? that's where the fundamentals get interesting. been watching the adoption curve on this one closely

Really, Twitter has long been compromised, with screens full of robots and influencers. Farcaster is indeed better, but the network effect is really a tough hurdle. Without users, all the bells and whistles are useless.
