In centralized trading platforms, each user's assets are recorded in a ledger within a database. The challenge is how to securely prove that the platform has properly safeguarded all user assets.

Gate uses Merkle trees to store each user's account asset hash values at the leaf nodes of the Merkle tree. Anyone can have a third-party auditor with certification verify the total user assets stored in the Merkle tree leaves, confirming whether their funds are included in the asset Merkle tree.

If the verified total ≥ 100%, it proves that the platform has securely stored user funds, representing a 100% reserve backing for the corresponding assets.
