Recently, I delved into the GenLayer project and truly see its ambitions.

Many people's first reaction might be to ask, "What new chain is this?" but actually, it's not. What GenLayer aims to do is more interesting — directly redesign the interaction logic between chains and applications.

It pinpoints the core issue accurately: why does every Web3 project have to repeatedly develop basic functionalities? Why do the same requirements need to be implemented N times across different chains? This is indeed very inefficient.

GenLayer's solution is to propose the concept of a "Universal Layer," aiming to enable more flexible interactions between different applications and chains, reducing redundant development. This approach is much more pragmatic compared to creating a new chain or building a new platform.

If this architecture can truly be implemented successfully, it should reduce developers' development costs and improve the operational efficiency of the entire ecosystem. It’s worth keeping an eye on the ongoing progress of this project.

The idea of the general layer really hits the pain point. It's much better than just adding a new chain. It all depends on whether the team can truly implement this system.

hmm, empirically speaking the "universal layer" framing is just another way of saying middleware theater... has anyone actually mapped out the incentive structures here? 🤓

The idea of the general layer indeed hits the pain points, but very few projects that can truly be implemented are actually realized.

lol "universal layer" is just middleware with better marketing tbh. seen this plot before—sounds elegant until devs actually try integrating across chains and realize the fragmentation problem was never really the bottleneck anyway
