Bila Solar Establishes U.S. Manufacturing Hub in Indianapolis with Revolutionary Lightweight Module Technology

Bila Solar, a Singapore-based renewable energy innovator, has officially launched operations with an ambitious expansion into the American market. The company is establishing a state-of-the-art production facility in Indianapolis, marking a significant investment in domestic solar manufacturing and urban revitalization.

Investment Scale and Economic Impact

The solar company plans to commit over $35 million to transform a 150,000-square-foot facility located at 1249 S. White River Parkway East Drive in Indianapolis. Once operational, this manufacturing hub will create approximately 240 permanent jobs, addressing the broader challenge of urban industrial revival in the United States. The facility is designed to produce at an annual capacity of one gigawatt – equivalent to manufacturing roughly 5,000 high-performance modules each day. Production is scheduled to commence in summer 2024.

Redefining Solar Module Design

What distinguishes Bila Solar in a crowded market is its flagship ultralight solar module technology. These modules weigh merely 30 percent of conventional glass-based panels and are 95 percent slimmer, achieved through aerospace-grade composite engineering. The innovation combines the efficiency and dependability of crystalline silicon cells with materials specifically patented for minimal weight and maximum durability.

This engineering breakthrough opens previously inaccessible installation venues. Traditional solar panels face limitations on structures with low load-bearing capacities, waterproof membrane roofs, curved surfaces, and vehicle integration applications. Bila’s lightweight modules eliminate these constraints, democratizing solar adoption across commercial, industrial, and off-grid energy scenarios.

Strategic Headquarters Location

Indianapolis serves dual purposes for Bila Solar – both manufacturing epicenter and U.S. headquarters. Mick McDaniel, VP & US General Manager, emphasized the city’s appeal: “Indianapolis offered a central geographic position, a skilled and diverse labor force, and an innovative business culture aligned with our mission to make clean energy universally accessible.”

The decision received support from state leadership. Governor Eric J. Holcomb stated that Indiana’s robust entrepreneurial ecosystem positioned the state as an ideal partner for companies advancing energy solutions.

Market Timing and Industry Tailwinds

The timing of Bila Solar’s U.S. entry aligns with accelerating renewable energy adoption. According to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), cumulative solar deployment is projected to nearly triple by 2028, driven by the Inflation Reduction Act alongside state and local incentive programs. These policy frameworks provide sustained tax benefits and regulatory certainty that catalyze demand for solar infrastructure and storage solutions.

Company Vision and Operations

Bila Solar’s expansion reflects broader momentum in clean energy manufacturing. The company aims to drive innovation that extends solar energy access to industries and applications previously constrained by conventional panel limitations. The manufacturing operation encompasses site selection services and real estate coordination, with CBRE, Cushman & Wakefield, and Site Selection Group facilitating the transaction and incentive procurement.

The Indianapolis facility represents a forward-looking approach to domestic renewable energy production, combining technological innovation with workforce development and economic growth in urban manufacturing sectors.
