How Redfin Redesign is Transforming Home Listing Photography with AI
Real estate shopping just got smarter. Redfin has rolled out an AI-driven feature that lets potential buyers reimagine interior spaces before deciding whether to schedule a tour or make an offer. The tool, powered by visualization technology from Roomvo, enables users to tweak walls, floors, and countertops in listing photos with just a few clicks—giving shoppers a clearer picture of a home’s true potential.
The Problem It Solves
When browsing property listings, buyers typically see homes in their current state, which may not reflect how spaces could look with renovations or different design choices. Sellers, meanwhile, want their listings to appeal to the widest possible audience regardless of individual style preferences. Redfin Redesign bridges this gap by allowing both parties to explore design possibilities instantly, without expensive staging or virtual tours alone.
How the Feature Works
The experience is straightforward. Once you find an eligible listing on Redfin.com or the iPhone app, select the “Redesign” button on the first photo. The tool displays a gallery of interior images, and you pick a room to customize. From there, you’ll choose from an assortment of flooring options, paint colors, and countertop finishes. A slider comparison instantly shows the before-and-after transformation, helping you visualize the difference each choice makes.
Expanding Availability Across Markets
Currently, Redfin Redesign is accessible for more than 75,000 listings nationwide. The rollout includes all active Redfin listings plus eligible sold Redfin properties across the U.S. The company has also partnered with Bright MLS, one of America’s largest multiple listing services by inventory, to extend the feature to properties throughout the mid-Atlantic region covering Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
The Technology Partnership
Roomvo’s AI capabilities power the visual transformation engine, processing design requests in seconds rather than hours. This collaboration reflects a shared mission: making home design accessible to everyone. By combining Redfin’s reach of 50+ million monthly visitors with Roomvo’s proven visualization technology, the partnership creates a scalable solution for real estate professionals looking to market listings more effectively.
Bright MLS’s involvement marks a significant milestone, as this is the first time an MLS of its scale has partnered with a major brokerage to offer such capability. The integration helps brokers deliver cutting-edge experiences to consumers exploring homes on desktop or mobile.
Part of Redfin’s Broader AI Strategy
This launch fits into Redfin’s larger mission to modernize real estate transactions. The company was among the first to introduce 3D walkthroughs on listings, recognizing that immersive experiences help buyers make faster decisions. Now, by enhancing listing photos through AI, Redfin is tackling one of the most-viewed elements on its platform—the initial photos that first attract buyer interest.
What’s Next
Redfin plans to expand Redfin Redesign beyond its current footprint by negotiating partnerships with additional MLSs and brokerages. With over 100 markets served across the U.S. and Canada and more than 4,000 employees, Redfin has the infrastructure to scale this capability broadly. The company is actively seeking collaboration opportunities with organizations that recognize how this tool can enhance agent marketing reach.
Since its 2006 founding, Redfin has already saved customers more than $1.5 billion in commissions while charging just a 1% listing fee—less than half the industry standard. Adding AI-powered visualization to the mix further differentiates the platform and reinforces its commitment to making real estate better for buyers, sellers, and agents alike.
