Airtasker USA Seals $12M Media Deal to Fuel Market Expansion Amid Growing Momentum

Airtasker USA is making bold moves in its US expansion, locking in $12 million in media capital through strategic alliances with Sinclair Broadcast Group and Mercurius Media Capital LP. Combined with previous deals announced in September, the company has now secured $21.75 million in total media partnerships for 2024, positioning itself as an increasingly visible player in the local services marketplace.

The Strategic Media Capital Model

The media-for-equity approach—trading advertising inventory instead of cash—has become central to Airtasker USA’s growth playbook. This September, the company already clinched $9.75 million from partnerships with iHeartMedia and TelevisaUnivision. The new deals represent a continued doubling down on this strategy to amplify brand presence across American markets.

Sinclair is contributing $6 million in advertising inventory, giving Airtasker USA access to 185 television stations across 86 US markets, along with digital networks like Comet, Charge!, and The Nest. “This deal exemplifies how we’re expanding partnerships with innovative companies,” said Andrew Schnell, VP Corporate Strategy and Development at Sinclair. “We’re looking forward to helping Airtasker strengthen its position and build a stronger community marketplace for local tasks.”

Multi-Year Commitment from Mercurius

The second partnership brings another $6 million in premium advertising inventory through Mercurius’s network of broadcast, streaming, and digital channels, including partnerships with TelevisaUnivision, Sinclair, and Willow TV. “Airtasker is on an incredible trajectory,” noted Piyush Puri, Founding Partner of Mercurius. “Under Tim Fung’s leadership, the company is redefining how Americans access local services. We’re thrilled to support this expansion and bring this innovative marketplace to more people across the country.”

Real Momentum in Key Markets

The strategy is already showing tangible results. Since September, the Los Angeles market alone has delivered striking growth: posted tasks surged 172%, gross merchandise value climbed 223%, user sign-ups jumped 98%, and Tasker registrations increased 66%. Nationally, completed tasks in the US are up 306% year-over-year.

Airtasker USA now has 3 million Taskers across the US, UK, and Australia who have completed 4.3 million tasks, with services ranging from home repairs and pet care to event planning and specialized freelance work.

Why This Matters

Founder and CEO Tim Fung emphasized the timing: “Our media partnership model scaled the Australian marketplace to over $200 million and drove the UK market to 100% year-on-year growth. Now we’re stepping on the gas pedal for the US.” The company has already distributed over $600 million to workers since its 2012 launch and served 1.3 million unique paying customers globally.

The media capital strategy appears to be working as a differentiator in a crowded gig economy space, turning traditional media partnerships into a customer acquisition engine while maintaining unit economics.
