The Growth Dilemma of Traditional Brands and Web3 Projects

Ten years ago, brands had to spend a lot of money to become popular: endorsers, subway ads, Xiaohongshu promotions... And the result? Money was spent, but the effectiveness was unclear.

Now, Web3 projects have different strategies: airdrops, community events, AMA sessions—it's lively. Unfortunately, user retention is disastrous; users come quickly and leave just as fast. Why?

The fundamental difference is: Web2 brands can only guess where users are, but Web3 projects can see clearly. Yet most projects fail to make good use of this advantage.

What is the reality? Users are active on Discord, Twitter, and wallet addresses, but project teams can't see the full picture. Who is truly participating? How deep is their engagement? Is the buzz organic growth or just fake orders? These data points are scattered everywhere, and no one is integrating them.

A true on-chain data hub can change this—using contribution scores, activity trajectories, and genuine interaction metrics to piece the fragments together, making growth no longer a gamble. Web3 projects should break through from here.

Well said, data fragmentation is truly a stubborn problem in Web3. There are too many fake transactions, making it impossible to see who the genuine believers are. Someone should have done a good job of integrating on-chain data long ago.

Basically, it's all just guessing. With such scattered data, how can good decisions be made? --- Airdrops and then leaving—I've seen this many times... Project teams need to take retention seriously. --- Integrating on-chain data is indeed a pain point; someone truly needs to do it well. --- Activity in Discord is meaningless; wallet addresses are the real identity, but most projects haven't realized this. --- I agree. Web3 should understand users even more than Web2. But what’s the result? How many opportunities have been wasted? --- You can't find genuine user needs; no matter how many airdrops you do, it won't help. That's the fundamental problem. --- Buzz can be faked, but retention can't. Project teams will eventually understand this truth.

They're all data issues. Who has truly understood what's on the chain?

Basically, it's just blind data. Even if there's a gold mine, you can't find it. However, I am skeptical about the on-chain data hub; it's probably just a trick to deceive funding.
