Trump Offers Reassurance: U.S. Stocks Will Reach New Highs Again, Government Shutdown Must End Quickly!

President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that the stock market will hit more "historic highs." U.S. stocks opened with mixed results: the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.03%, the S&P 500 fell 0.03%, and the Nasdaq gained 0.04%.

Speaking during a breakfast with Republican Senators, Trump highlighted that the government shutdown is negatively impacting the stock market. He said, "We must reopen the government as soon as possible and take immediate action. Our economy is in its hottest period in history, and the shutdown has also affected the stock market. But as of last Friday, the stock market has reached new highs multiple times over the past nine months—many times. And it will hit new highs again. This is just the beginning. Once the factories currently being built in the U.S. start production, things will be even different. We've never seen such prosperity; this is a great opportunity."

Regarding the government shutdown and ending the prolonged debate, Trump stated, "We should start passing legislation tonight." He urged the Republican Party to abandon the filibuster process to reopen federal agencies and also pushed for stricter restrictions on mail-in voting.

Over the past 12 months, the S&P 500 has risen 19.6%, mainly driven by strong corporate earnings and investor enthusiasm for AI. The stock market has shown remarkable resilience, ignoring concerns over escalating global trade tensions and market volatility.

In Trump's view, the stock market rally proves his policies are correct. On October 28, during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Trump praised the historic new highs reached by U.S. stocks.
