Linux Node version
The Pi ecosystem has released the Linux Node version! Nodes are the pillars of the Pi decentralized infrastructure, extending node support beyond Mac and Windows, which can enhance the network's resilience and adaptability.

For partners and service agencies, including exchanges, the Linux Node version is crucial. Many such entities have already been running customized nodes based on Linux to connect to Pi. With the official Linux Node version, partners and service agencies can transition to standardized node software. This brings a key advantage: Linux node operators can manage protocol updates themselves or enable automatic updates for the Pi Network, making it easier to stay in sync with future versions. This replaces the current reliance on customized versions, creating a more stable and consistent ecosystem.

For pioneers, Linux Node is a feature that has been frequently requested by the community over the past few years. Although it is not directly related to node rewards and may not have an immediate impact on daily participation, this update will enhance accessibility and ecosystem engagement. Its significance lies in the infrastructure: supporting Linux can make the network more inclusive for developers, tech-savvy pioneers, and those interested in contributing through an open-source environment.

Upgrading to version 23 soon
In conjunction with the Linux Node version release, Pi Network is preparing for a significant upgrade: upgrading from protocol version 19 to version 23. The Pi protocol is adapted from the Stellar protocol. This version is a custom Pi protocol built on the upgrade of Stellar protocol version 23, supporting new functionalities and control layers. The upcoming protocol upgrade will be implemented gradually through consecutive versions and may require planned interruptions to blockchain services. Announcing such upgrades in advance is intended to help partners, third-party services, and the community prepare ahead of time.

This launch will undergo careful testing:

The Testnet1 upgrade will begin this week and continue for the next few weeks.
Note: During the Testnet1 protocol upgrade, the Testnet1 blockchain may experience brief interruptions. Pi will launch a new community Node container for Testnet1, and users do not need to take any action.
After the completion of the Testnet 1 upgrade, Testnet2 and Mainnet will be rolled out in phases over the next few weeks, upgrading the entire ecosystem to version 23.
Note: There may be specific interruptions during the upgrade period, and we will notify partners and pioneer users in advance. During the upgrade, third-party service websites (such as centralized exchanges (CEX)) may also experience a brief interruption in the availability of Pi.
KYC permissions of the embedded protocol

KYC certification blockchain plays an additional role in user compliance interactions. Pi Network will continue to operate as one of the leading KYC certification blockchains, with tens of millions of KYC certified accounts, but the execution method of verification is constantly evolving. With protocol upgrades, this verification will be executed directly by the blockchain protocol itself. Importantly, this upgrade will decentralize KYC permissions.

Although the native Pi KYC solution will continue to validate pioneers, the protocol will allow for KYC permissions to be granted to other trusted entities in the future. This will provide a more distributed, community-driven KYC process while maintaining compliance at the protocol level.

It is important to note that identity verification through KYC is crucial for the integrity and compliance of the network, as well as for readiness for integration with services that require identity verification. Pi has been committed to building a KYC-verified blockchain network for many years and has successfully migrated over 14.82 million users who have passed KYC verification to the Pi mainnet blockchain. This vision is now echoed by the industry's recent movement towards verified permissioned standards such as ERC-3643, which embeds identity and compliance logic directly into tokens on the public network.
