During the government transition, the U.S. Department of Justice ordered the freezing of all current cases in the Civil Rights Division.
According to a memo, the US Department of Justice has ordered the Civil Rights Division to cease litigation initiated by the Biden administration and not to bring any new cases or settlements. The memo does not specify how long the freeze will last. It states that the freeze is being implemented to ensure that the federal government ‘speaks with one voice’ on legal matters and to ensure that presidentially appointed or designated individuals have an opportunity to decide whether to initiate any new cases. It is reported that Harmeet Dhillon, the nominee for head of the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice, is awaiting confirmation by the Senate.
