South Korea's 'lying flat' youth reached a historical high of 443,000, with over 70% having 'no intention to work'.

On August 19th, according to the Jinshi data, the Economic Activity Population Survey conducted by the Korean Statistical Office on the 18th showed that the number of 'lying flat' population in the youth group (15-29 years old) in July increased by 42,000 (10.4%) compared to the same period last year, reaching 443,000. This is the highest year-on-year value in history, more than the 441,000 people during the epidemic in 2020 and the 399,000 people in 2021. The proportion of 'lying flat population' in the 8.15 million youth population in South Korea last month was 5.4%. This is also the highest year-on-year value. Especially worth following is the lack of work intention among the 'lying flat' population in the youth group. The micro data analysis results of the Korean Statistical Office show that 75.6% of the 'lying flat' youth population answered 'no' to the question of 'whether they want to work', reaching 335,000 people. In other words, three-quarters of them have no intention of working at all.
