Runes Period Started in Bitcoin, New Tokens Entered the Market With the completion of the fourth halving on the Bitcoin blockchain, a new protocol called Runes has also been launched.
Developed by Casey Rodarmor, the inventor of the Ordinals protocol, Runes was designed as an alternative to the BRC-20 standard.
Runes allows users to mint new tokens on the Bitcoin blockchain. However, unlike Ordinals, these tokens are more like meme coins than NFT. The first project created in the Runes protocol was Rodamor's own project, UNCOMMON•GOODS. Within a few hours of the halving, hundreds of Runes projects were prepared.
According to Runealpha data, Runes users have paid 259 Bitcoin ($16.3 million) worth of transaction fees so far.
