Trump Issues Ultimatum to Iran: Fulfill Peace Agreement or Escalation Continues
Donald Trump released an official statement on Wednesday (5/6) regarding the development of the conflict with Iran. Through his official release on Truth Social, Trump emphasized that the military operation "Epic Fury" will be halted if Iran meets the points of the peace agreement that has been negotiated. If achieved, the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened for all international shipping. However, Trump issued a stern ultimatum that if Iran refuses, the U.S. will restart military operations with much higher intensity.
Although signals of peace are strengthening, Trump stated it is still "too early" to begin preparations for signing the peace agreement. This statement comes amid reports that Israel is unaware of the U.S. position, which is already very close to an agreement, while internal sources claim Israel is actually preparing to escalate the conflict.
News about the potential opening of this peace deal triggered a significant drop in global crude oil prices. Brent prices plummeted sharply below US$102 per barrel, while WTI fell to around US$96 per barrel. Although prices declined due to hopes for peace, the uncertainty from Trump's ultimatum and Israel's military readiness still keep the situation in the world's main energy corridor in a high alert state.
