Golden Finance reports that on March 31, U.S. President Donald Trump said in an interview with the New York Post on Monday that Kalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s parliament, is one of the Iranian officials who has been in contact with the United States regarding ending the war. When asked whether they could trust Kalibaf in terms of cooperating with Washington, Trump replied, “We’ll see.” He also said that about a week from now I will let you know the details. On Sunday, Trump told the Financial Times that Kalibaf had authorized allowing tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump interpreted this move as meaning that Kalibaf is willing to make concessions, in order to reach an agreement to end the war. Kalibaf denied having any negotiations with the United States, but experts say he is a hardliner figure with the qualifications to reach an agreement. According to The Wall Street Journal, Kalibaf is one of two Iranian officials that the U.S. and Israel have temporarily removed from their “death list.”
