[Trump] has requested the U.S. Supreme Court to allow him to dismiss the only remaining Democratic commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). This case could overturn a judicial precedent that has stood for 90 years and grant the White House stricter control over federal regulatory agencies. This appeal targets a 1935 Supreme Court decision that ruled Congress could protect at least some high-ranking officials from arbitrary dismissal. Currently, the conservative majority in the Supreme Court has gradually weakened the effectiveness of this precedent, but it has not yet directly overturned it.
