The EU plans to impose sanctions on the fake flags used by Russia's "shadow fleet".
On October 7, Jin10 reported that the EU has proposed restrictions on three companies that provide false flags for sanctioned oil tankers. Documents show that these entities provided false Aruban, Curacao, and Saint Martin flags to at least eight sanctioned vessels. These three regions do not appear in the so-called Paris official flag registry, which means they are not actually providing the related services. The Netherlands issued a notice to the International Maritime Organization in May, warning that companies were providing "false certificates" in the name of Saint Martin. These proposed measures are part of the latest round of EU sanctions currently being negotiated by member states.
